A$325.00
This is the year the Venetians celebrate the joys of taking on another persona continuing the tradition that started in 1168. Masks started to be worn in response to living in one of the most rigid class hierachies in Europe. By the end of the eighteenth century wearing them was regulated and occured during the three month period after December 26. Weapons were prohibited when masks were worn and this was reinforced by the police!! The Venetians have perfected the art of making many different types of masks and seen here is a beautiful example.
This Jester full face mask is a papier mache masterpiece featuring gilded highlights, braiding applique and a painted scene of the Rialto Bridge and another scene along with bells.
