This chest has the simple lines of early Biedermeier (around 1820) . It owes its simplicity to the Georgian precedent of the early nineteenth century. In its construction the ideal of truth through material can be seen, something which later influenced the Bauhaus and Art Deco periods and more recent Scandinavian design.

The decorative ebonised band at the top of this chest is its main adornment. It comes with original key and hardware.
